16 Days of Activism

It is a world wide movement that focuses on bringing an end to gender based abuse. The campaign started in 1991 and was created by the Centre of women's global leadership and takes place between the 25th of November to the 10th of December, this event happens every year.

Stirling council has a link on their website, with a list of activities happening in and around Stirling (this includes Alloa and Falkirk) that are to do with 16 days of activism. This post is going up after some of the events have come and gone, but there are still more days to go, so here are some of the things happening.

There will be stalls set up at the Forth Valley campuses on different days, that will have organizations that take part in combating gender based abuse. It will be present in the Alloa campus on the 30th of November between 11:30 and 13:30 and will feature the NHS and Clackmannanshire Woman's Aid. Falkirk campus on the 5th of December between 11:30 and 13:30 and will have members of the CEA, Soroptimist International, Central advocacy partners and others. In Stirling campus on the 7th of December, between the hours of 11:30 and 13:30, among those present will be Stirling Woman's Aid and Central advocacy partners. All of these stalls are there to give you information on what the organizations do, what services they offer and how to seek support if you need it.

On the 4th of December you can visit the Speirs centre in Alloa, Clackmannanshire Woman's Aid will be holding an event about promoting healthy relationships. Also happening on the 4th is an online meeting held by Stirling Woman's Aid and is focused on talking about misogyny in the media, if you want to take part in the meeting you have to contact this email info@stirlingwomensaid.co.uk in order to reserve a space. Both of these events will take place between 14:00 and 16:00.

On the 7th at 18:30 there is a march organized by Reclaim Stirling, the meeting point is outside the Scran at the atrium of Stirling university, the walk is about taking back the night and is open to everyone, no booking is required.

If you want to learn more or take part please look into these events, the link on the Stirling council website has lots of local events.

If you or someone you know is in need of advice or help with gender based abuse, don't be afraid to get into contact with CEA, Stirling Woman's Aid or Clackmannanshire Woman's Aid, they are all good sources of information on the subject and have services to aid you, they are also all located nearby.
